Glass Windbreak - Practical & Good Looking

HomePlus Southland have designed and installed this stunning glass windbreak to create a usable outdoor area that the homeowners had previously only dreamt of. The owners loved the beautiful views that come with the hill location of this property near Gore, but not the strong winds with its elevated setting. Initially, the customers envisioned a slatted windbreak as the achievable option, but really wanted a glass solution, which they presumed was not possible due to the windy locale. In the absence of established trees to act as a wind barrier, and the previous steel fence having blown over, the brief was to find a solution that would look good, be robust, and durable enough to last.

Factoring in durability considerations and the preference for glass, Brendan, the owner of HomePlus Southland, put together a design and recommendation for a glass windbreak/screen that used the Edge balustrade system, specifically the Edge Commercial C3 post, which, depending on wind zone considerations of the location, can achieve heights up to 1800 mm with toughened safety glass. Working in the current patio area, the edge pavers were lifted to enable the posts to be fitted into the ground and fixed with concrete. The original removed pavers were then cut to fit around the posts and reinstated. Toughened safety glass was fitted into the post pockets and finished in Silver Pearl Dulux powder coat colour to match the home's existing joinery.

Not only are the customers happy to finally have a usable outdoor area, but they are also absolutely thrilled with the stunning finished look of the glass windbreak.
