11th December 2023 New Legislation. BPIR and HomePlus.

21 December 2023 by Dan Rawling

On 11th December 2023, the building industry witnessed a pivotal moment with the implementation of new regulations, reshaping the dynamics for manufacturers, importers, and consumers. These regulations, designed to empower specifiers and buyers, emphasise transparent, accurate, and consistent information. HomePlus has proactively embraced these changes to ensure compliance.

Understanding the regulations:

For manufacturers like HomePlus, the regulations signify a commitment to disclosing important information about their products. This includes demonstrating compliance with the Building Code and substantiating any claims, all presented in a user-friendly format.

Responsibilities for Sellers:

HomePlus stores that retail specific HomePlus products, that are currently “Specifiable” under the Building Act, must guide their customers to the Building Product Information Register (BPIR) sheets when requested. Conveniently available on the HomePlus website, these sheets serve as an invaluable resource for customers seeking detailed and accurate information about their chosen products.

Products Affected:

The regulations primarily target products involved in the building consent process.

Class 1 Products: Mass and batch-produced building products e.g. melamine board, particleboard, and engineered stone. (HomePlus has identified no Class 1 Products in its range)

Class 2 Products, which are customised to individual client specifications, include HomePlus products like our custom-manufactured Balustrades, Louvre Roofs, and Glaslide® Glass Sliding Panels.

Important to note that Architects, Designers, and Consumers bear no new responsibilities under these regulations.

Exemptions:

Certain products are exempt, such as those with CodeMark appraisal and modular components manufactured by a registered modular component manufacturer.

HomePlus Resources:

Committed to enabling customers to make informed decisions, HomePlus has created BPIR Information Sheets for all applicable Class 2 products. These sheets, easily accessible on the HomePlus website, provide comprehensive details on compliance, specifications, and other pertinent information.

Conclusion:

As the building industry evolves with new regulations, HomePlus embraces transparency and commitment to providing essential information. By complying with these regulations and offering accessible resources, HomePlus ensures that specifiers, buyers, and sellers can navigate this new landscape with confidence.
