Choosing Which Balustrade Is Best

14 April 2023 by Dan Rawling

When choosing a balustrade system it is often up to the architect as to which style is favoured and naturally, the design will often reflect their client’s preferences. The ability to choose a balustrade of choice from the comprehensive range of HomePlus balustrade systems enables the choice from a variety of aesthetics from traditional balusters to the ultimate in contemporary, modern look, a completely frameless glass balustrade with hidden fixings.

The most important consideration when choosing a balustrade should be the reassurance that it will meet all safety requirements and that it will be installed in NZ homes in accordance with the relevant NZ Building Regulations. Every HomePlus balustrade system has been engineered and tested to fully comply with NZ building regulations and should only be installed by authorised installers. The next priority would then be to ensure the look and style that is desired. Viking® Balustrade is a very popular glass and aluminium system and is a firm favourite with architects and clients, with its wide range of style choices it is suitable for both modern and older style homes. The Edge® glass and aluminium balustrade system offers a more contemporary look, with additional handrail choices such as the stylish aerofoil shape. Edge also offers hidden fixings for face-fix balustrades and a greater range of glass heights. Like the Viking range, Edge balustrade comes available with a variety of glass and aluminium infill options, fully framed or as a semi-frameless design with posts and no handrail.

Edgetec® frameless balustrade series provides a finish with minimal visual obstruction from posts and handrails. Edgetec Mini PostDouble Disc, Infinity or JH Clamp systems utilise multiple glass options and fixings to maximise the visual benefits of glass infill. All are designed in architectural aluminium which can be powder coated from the huge Dulux colour range. Hidden fixings are available for both the Edgetec and Edge range, with gutter brackets available for waterproof or floating deck installations. The JH Clamp series is stepped out from the deck utilising packers instead of gutter brackets.

As well as traditional aluminium baluster panels like the Contemporary and Homestead® range, there is Lamerra™ with its low-maintenance, robust style with embraces the modern industrial look and Stecca® which with its aluminium detailing makes it the front and centre of a building's look.

All HomePlus products come with a 5-year warranty and this along with the variety of options should make finding the right choice of balustrade an easy one.
