Maximising the stunning views of Mount Maunganui was always the focus of the house design, with particular emphasis on the front deck. However, the owners found out quickly that the relentless heat of the Summer afternoon sun on the deck meant they had to retreat inside, for respite from the sun and heat, and that this area was not being as used as much as had been envisaged.
The homeowners run a home-based childcare service from the location, and this rapidly became an issue during the summer months, particularly not being able to utilise as much of their outdoor area as possible. The solution designed and installed by HomePlus Tauranga was to fit two Louvre roofs in a multi-bay unit for weather protection on the large front deck, combined with a single roof on the smaller back deck, which the homeowners use to enjoy the morning sun. The multi-bay Louvre roofs sit side-by-side, and have the added advantage of automated control over opening and closing individually, enabling the flexibility to have the Louvres open or closed at the exact angle required. This has led to the area being sheltered against the full range of weather conditions, year-round.
The deck has become one of the most utilised areas in the home with its shaded protection on sunny days and dry shelter on rainy occasions. This previously underused area has become sought after by children and adults alike, as a secure and sheltered extension of the indoor area and the finished installation has improved the lifestyle of everyone who spends time at the house, year-round.
Custom made for the homeowners; the Louvre roofs were completed in 2 colours. A lighter Dulux Titania powder coat colour for the blades for increased light when the roof is closed combined with darker Electric Cow for the posts and frames to seamlessly match the home’s existing joinery.
