Modern Transformation with Meaningful Connection

For Mark Brown of Solutions Architecture, this renovation project was especially significant. Having been part of the architectural design team that originally helped build the home more than 20 years ago, the opportunity to reimagine it for the same owners was a rewarding experience.

Still owned by its original homeowners, the renovation focused on making better use of the available space, opening up the home, and extending the outdoor living areas. Modern products played a key role in achieving this vision, and Mark noted how dramatically the product range has evolved since the home was first built.

A Balustrade That Defines the Design

The choice of balustrade was a crucial element of the project, serving as a major design feature. "They are very visual, as they are the first thing you see on the house when you drive up the driveway", Mark explained.

Installed on both the first and second-floor decks, the glass balustrade was essential to achieving the home's contemporary aesthetic. The Edgetec Infinity Balustrade was selected for its clean, streamlined appearance. With its fully enclosed system, the Infinity frameless glass balustrade conceals all clamp fittings and fixings behind matching covers, delivering the sleek, minimalist finish Mark was seeking.

A Collaborative Approach

Having successfully partnered with HomePlus on previous projects, Mark was pleased to work with the team again. "Brendon from HomePlus Exteriors is a lateral thinker and made the whole process much easier," said Mark. To further refine the result, HomePlus recommended applying a frosted finish to the lower 200mm of the glass panels. This subtle addition concealed deck edge details associated with the floating waterproof deck system and enhanced the overall appearance of the installation.

Finishing Touches

To complement the home's minimalist design, the balustrade was powder coated in Dulux Appliance White. The colour was carefully chosen to blend seamlessly with the existing fixtures and weatherboard cladding. While darker finishes are often the more common choice for balustrades, the white finish created a distinctive and elegant look that perfectly suited the home's refreshed design. The finished result speaks for itself, delivering a clean, sophisticated appearance that enhances both the architecture and outdoor living spaces.
