HomePlus Tauranga and Grand Designs NZ: Lake Tarawera

16 November 2022 by Dan Rawling

Recently the team at HomePlus Tauranga were approached by the building firm constructing a new property located on the shoreline of the stunning Lake Tarawera in the Bay of Plenty. They were engaged to help with the clear vision that the owners had, of utilising the incredible aspect and maximising the indoor/outdoor flow of this new build project. Excitingly this build also happened to be featured on the ever-popular Grand Designs NZ!

The property is in an amazing location and the owners’ Stew and Gill wanted to ensure that the amazing view the property afforded was maximised. The HomePlus team was engaged to install a cantilevered frameless glass Edgetec Infinity® balustrade with toughened safety glass and a slim top rail, that had been chosen for the property’s front balcony, and would ensure a sympathetic balustrade solution to complement the stunning views of Mt Tarawera and the lake itself.

When you have a great outdoor space in tandem with this outlook, you want to maximise all possibilities for using it. The installation of a Louvre Roof by the team has enabled the outside space to become an extension of the indoors. The roof can be set to the best sun orientation to maximise shading during the day or be completely closed to give full protection from inclement weather including rain and snow. Its design ensures that guttering and downpipes are incorporated into the louvre roof and optional inbuilt LEDs in the support beams enable stylish lighting. The owners have their BBQ and beer fridge located here and the finished result is that “they have dissolved the boundary from the inside and the stunning outside.” All the aluminium components including the handrail have been powder coated to the customer’s requirement and match the colour of the house.

Please note the above image is not of the Lake Tarawera property but is the same Louvre roof that was used.

The conclusion is a stunning, modern, and usable property that has maximised its main asset, the location. The customers are so happy with the way their vision has come to pass, and the architect and main builder who engaged HomePlus were “perfectionists.” The finished result is a beautiful property which has utilised the view and provided stunning modern outdoor focal points that have effectively blurred the boundary between the inside and outside.
